BENGALURU: A notorious dacoit, who was wanted in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, was shot at by the Hosur police when he tried to attack the police team with a knife and flee, in the border area in Anekal taluk early on Saturday.
Sheik Namdar Hussain (34) was involved in eight cases in Karnataka and six in Tamil Nadu. Of late, there had been several complaints of house theft in Hosur following which Krishnagiri SP Suraj Kumar Thakur had alerted all senior officers. Hosur Deputy SP Prashanth Babu formed a team, and based on CCTV footage, tracked Hussain to Guntkal district in Andhra Pradesh, arrested him and brought him to Hosur.
On Saturday morning, the police brought Hussain to Tirupati Majestic Layout on Bagalur road for spot inspection when he attacked the police with a knife and attempted to flee. In self defence, the police fired at him in the leg. The injured police inspector Vinod Kumar, head constable Velarasu and Ramaswamy were also admitted to hospital for treatment of injuries.
