BENGALURU: Noted writer Dr Kamala HamPaNa died today after suffering a heart attack at her daughter’s residence in Rajarajeshwari Nagar in Bengalurru on Saturday. She was 89.
The mortal remains were kept for public viewing at Ravindra Kalakshetra till evening and will be later donated to the MS Ramaiah hospital by the family members.
Kamala HamPaNa has penned over 60 literary works and was also president of the 71st Kannada Sahitya Sammelan. She was also presented the Nadoja award by the Hampi Kannada University. She had also written nine volumes of composite literary works.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM D K Shivakumar and several others have condoled the death of the writer and offered their last respects. The CM said he had met the writer at an even a few months ago. “Kamala HamPaNa was among the few women who had authored so many literary works. She contributed immensely as as teacher, researcher and writer. We have lost a great litteratuer”, he noted.
Deputy CM Shivakumar said, “I have known the family for about 50 years and the couple have contributed immensely to Kannada literature. I and their son studied together and as soon as I came to know about her passing away, I rushed to pay my last respects. We will discuss later about what honour can be presented to her from the government”.
