BELAGAVI: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday for planning to hold a protest on the day of the centenary celebrations of the ‘1924 Belgaum Congress Session’ scheduled in Belagavi.
Dy CM Shivakumar said that he was not scared of BJP’s protests and is very much alive. “I am very much alive and I am heading the state Congress party. I am not scared of the BJP’s protest tactics. Mahatma Gandhi got us independence through his resolute fight. Do we get scared at a time when we are remembering the Mahatma?” he said.
He was replying to a reporter who pointed out to BJP’s protest during the centenary celebrations of the 1924 Belgaum Congress session scheduled in Belagavi. When asked about Union Minister Pralhad Joshi’s allegation that there was a conspiracy to finish off BJP MLC C T Ravi in a fake encounter, he said, “I am not going to answer that. The Home Minister and the Police will respond to it.”
When pointed out that the BJP was raising a hue and cry about the way the police treated C T Ravi but was mum on comments against women, he said, “The media must raise these questions. I don’t want to speak about it now, will respond after the centenary celebrations end on December 27.”
Asked about the trend of blaming him for anything that happens in the state, he said, “The number of enemies is directly proportionate to one’s strength. The stronger you are the more the enemies and vice versa. The more work you do the more the mistakes. There won’t be any mistakes if one doesn’t do anything at all.”
Asked about Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy’s statement that he doesn’t care about the future of the state, he said, “I will speak about Kumaraswamy separately in Channapatna.” (ANI)
