NIA collects info about Shariq’s associates from Shivamogga police

SHIVAMOGGA, MANGALURU: A team of the National Investigatin Agency (NIA) visited Shivamogga on Saturday to collect details about Mangaluru cooker blast suspect Mohammed Shariq and his associates.

Two of Shariq’s associates — Maaz Muneer Ahmed and Syed Yasin — are in jail after they were arrested in connection with the trial blast they had carried out on the banks of the Tunga river.

The NIA team collected information about Shariq’s associates.

Presently, the investigators are looking into whether there any links between the two blasts. The NIA collected information and documents related to the case from the Shivamogga Rural police.

Shariq is also believed to have got support from Kerala-based drugs and gold smuggling gangs and was himself a part of it too, according to sources. Part of the proceeds of the crimes goes into funding terror.

The NIA has taken several people into custody from Kasargod and Kannur in Kerala in connection with the investigation.
