KOLAR: A newlywed woman committed suicide over alleged dowry harassment and domestic dispute. The deceased has been identified as Manasa (24), a resident of Sahakara Nagar.

Manasa was married to Ullas Gowda from Thoorandahalli a year ago. However, Ullas Gowda’s family members were allegedly mentally torturing Manasa over dowry.

Despite two to three compromise meetings and counseling, the issue was not resolved, and a divorce petition was filed. Consequently, Ullas Gowda sent Manasa back to her parental home. Later, he sent a notice through his lawyer to Manasa to proceed with the divorce.

Manasa’s family now claimed that this led to her suicide.

In a suicide note, Manasa wrote, ‘No one is responsible for my death. My husband Ullas’ family is suffering because of me’. She also requested that her ornaments be returned to her parental family.

The police have filed a case of dowry harassment and suspicious death based on the death note. The post-mortem was conducted at RL Jalappa Hospital in the city.
