DAVANAGERE: A software engineer with a private firm in Bengaluru, who had got married just 15 days ago, died after his motorcycle crashed into a sugarcane-laden cart parked on the roadside near Kodi in Hirekerur taluk of Haveri district on Monday.
His newly-wed wife, who sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment in a hospital, came on a stretcher to bid a tearful goodbye.
Sanjay (27), who hails from Jigali village in Harihar taluk, got married to Preeti about two weeks ago. The couple had gone on a motorcycle ride and when they were returning, Sanjay crashed into a parked sugarcane-laden cart. The accident occurred on December 12. The couple was supposed to go to Bengaluru this week.
In videos and pictures that have gone viral on social media now, Preeti, who is seen swathed in bandage herself, can be seen lying next to her husband and caressing his face. She also broke down holding his hands. A pall of gloom has now descended on the village.
