Newborn abandoned in bush rescued by villagers, handed over to officials in Bagalkot village

BAGALKOT: A newborn baby, which was abandoned near a bush at Jagadala village in Rabkavi-Banahatti taluk, was rescued by villagers and handed over to the Women and Child Development Department on Thursday.

The newborn was found in a bush at Janata Plot in the village on Thursday afternoon. After hearing the cries of the baby from a deserted spot, villagers, including women, rescued the infant. They also gave the baby preliminary care at the community hall.

The villagers then informed the gram panchayat and the infant was handed over to the Women and Child Development Department in the presence of the Banahatti police. A case has been registered and the police are trying to trace who abandoned the baby.
