BENGALURU: The state government has come out with new rules for establishments like hotels, bakeries, malls, grocery stores and even fruit and vegetable sellers in the interest of maintaining quality of food products. Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao on Tuesday held a meeting with officials regarding implementation of the safety standards.

Accordingly, hotels and restaurants will have to display their registration and permit, make available clean drinking water and subject it to test, all ingredients to be checked and safety report and licence obtained, undertake pest control in places where food products are stored and not use ajinomoto or monosodium glutamate in dishes.

Vegetable sellers will have to obtain a permit, undertake pest control in places where vegetables are stored and check for artificial colouring of vegetables. Bakeries, cake makers and confectioners should check if liquid nitrogen has been used in desserts and ice cream before serving to customers and not use artificial colours in cakes.

Malls too have to check for adulteration in food products and outlets serving food products should be compulsorily registered.
