BENGALURU: The old building of the Government Arts and Science College, which has a history of 132 years, is still standing strong despite being exposed to rain, wind and cold over the century. However, the newly constructed building of the Department of Commerce and Management on the premises, located near Mysore Bank Circle adjacent to the old building, is already showing signs of poor quality in construction.
The plastering on the ceiling of room number 11 in the new building fell off last night, damaging the benches below. Fortunately, the incident occurred when there no classes were going on, or it could have been a disaster. The students are now afraid that the poor construction quality of the building may pose a risk to their lives.
The new building’s poor construction quality is evident from the cracks in the walls of other classrooms. Moreover, water seepage from the ceiling has made the building damp. Despite this, construction work on an additional floor has begun on the same building.
However, the recent incident has raised concerns about the safety of the students and the quality of construction work.
