BENGALURU: A hi-tech bus stand at Nelamangala, which was proposed at a cost crores of rupees and was meant to ease commuter woes, is now standing half built, a testimony to the apathy of officials and elected representatives.
The work, which started last year, has been halted due to differences between the Nelamangala Municipal Council and the transport authorities over various issues.
Work on the new bus stand was taken up after the old bus stand was demolished. But,the construction has been halted due differences between the municipal council and the transport authorities.
As a result of the lax attitude off officials and elected representatives, traffic problems have become a daily affair at the temporary bus stand, and passengers find it difficult to find buses for commute. Bus drivers halt by the side of the road, and the staff too have been struggling for the past one year.
“Work on the high-tech bus stand at Nelamangala has been going on for many years, but now the construction has been halted. The crores of rupees spent on the bus stand is going waste. People commute for work, students and others use buses to travel to different places and are dependent on buses. Officials should respond to the issue immediately,” says Suresh, a local.
Residents of the area have demanded that the Chief Minister, Transport Minister and Bengaluru Rural Affairs Minister pay attention to this issue immediately, and asked the government to take appropriate action to solve the problem.
