BENGALURU: A day after the murder of 21-year-old Mahananda, an attendant at a fuel station in Mahadevapura, the police have arrested her neighbour on Saturday. Her clean feet and another girl’s statement helped them crack the case.
The neighbour’s husband and wife had murdered Mahananda and pretended not to know anything after the body was dumped right in front of her tenement. The police arrested the accused Krishna Chanda Seti, who hails from Odisha and was working a a security guard at a tech park.
The accused kept the body in a barrel after killing her, and later dumped it right in front of the house around 5 am on Friday morning. The police were suspicious as they that the victim had clean feet, and suspected that someone had killed the young woman’s somewhere else and disposed of the body near the house.
The police started the investigation by gathering information from neighbours. The accused Krishna was in the house next to the woman’s house, but the couple did not come out for many hours. Another girl had seen Mahananda going to Krishna’s house for the last time. The accused was arrested on the basis of the information given by the girl.
Prior to her death, Mahananda had placed a pot of rice on the stove for cooking, and came out of the house. At this time, the accused Krishna pulled her inside when she came to the door of his house. The accused attempted to rape her and kiss her forcefully. When she refused him, he smothered her by covering her nose and mouth with one hand as she started screaming.
He wrapped the body in a bedsheet and kept the body in a barrel in the corner of the house. The accused’s wife came home around midnight and the accused dumped the body outside the deceased’s house in the morning. The matter was revealed when the accused Krishna was taken into custody by the Mahadevpura police and questioned.
