BENGALURU: With the price of the kitchen staple, onion, rising sharply, many families are finding it difficult to afford the tuber. Onion is being sold at Rs 70-80 per kg in the retail markets in Bengaluru.
Now, the National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation Of India Limited (NCCF) has come forward to sell onions at Rs 35 per kg from Monday through vans. Each individual will be eligible to buy only 2 kg of onions in a day.
The NCCF has deployed 15 mobile vans in different parts of the city. On Monday, a huge rush was seen wherever the vans were parked. After distributing Bharat Rice, the NCCF has now come forward to ensure supply of onions at subsidised prices to consumers in the city.
