BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s dream project, the Indira Canteens, seem to be losing its significance gradually. The Greater Bengaluru Authority is now contemplating whether Indira Canteens will be turned into Nandini milk parlours.
The GBA plans to open Nandini parlours at Indira Canteens and is preparing to submit a proposal to the government. The GBA commissioner M Maheshwar Rao informed Public TV that Nandini parlours will definitely open soon, leading to doubts about the Indira Canteens being shelved.
“The Indira Canteens are not functioning properly. There are only three meals — breakfast, lunch and dinner – and the place remains empty the rest of the time. Along with that, we plan to lease or contract the space to Nandini parlours to generate revenue. However, the question arises as to how appropriate it is to do this without fixing the existing problems in Indira Canteens”, he said.
