Namma Metro to introduce Common Mobility Cards in two weeks’ time

BENGALURU: A long-pending dream project of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) of implementing Common Mobility Cards for Metro passengers, which will allow travel in any metro rail in the country, is all set to be launched soon. At present, Namma Metro has token system, smart card and Whatsapp ticket.

All the technicalities have been worked out for the launch of the common mobility card and BMRCL has decided to distribute at least 25,000 cards in the coming 15 days. The card can be used in all Metro throughout the country through a common payment system. The plan will be extended to include the BMTC, KSRTC and app-based cab services too in the coming days.

Yashwant Chavan, said Namma Metro will launch the Common Mobility Cards soon.

Yashwant Chavan, Chief Engineer and Chief Public Relations Officer, BMRCL, said, “If all transport service providers implement the National Common Mobility Cards (NCMC), people can use one card anywhere in the nation, it can be Bengaluru, Delhi, Chennai. Not only that, all app-based transports can implement a similar card system. We have updated all the gates in the stations to provide new services. The beta testing is about to conclude and we will launch it on a trial basis in 15-20 days”.
