BENGALURU: With Namma Metro fares set to rise after the fare fixation committee submits its final report, coming on the back of the 15 per cent hike in bus fare hike, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) is planning to offer differential fares during peak and non-peak hours.

Bus passengers are already fuming over the hike in ticket prices and BMRCL is also preparing to implement a fare hike. In order to offer some sort of cushion for commuters, Namma Metro authorities are planning to introduce the discounted fare plan.

The fare fixation committee has already held public consultation and submitted its report on fare hike. Sources indicated that the Metro fare hike may be in the range of 40-45 per cent. While Metro authorities feel that the fare hike should not be a burden on commuters, it is also worried about drop in revenue on public holidays.

Once the fare hike is decided, the BMRCL authorities plan to introduce differential fares for peak and non-peak hour travel. While the revised fare will apply for peak-hour travel, the fare for non-peak hours will be 10-15 per cent lesser, sources said.

The non-peak hour fares will also apply on holiday in order to draw commuters. The BMRCL authorities hope to do a balancing act once the revised fare kicks in.
