Namma Metro fare is now the highest among all major cities in country

BENGALURU: The Namma Metro is one of the most popular public transport systems in the City with lakhs of people alrelying on the metro to reach their destination. The fares have been hiked by 46 per cent -50 per cent with effect from February 9, making Bengaluru’s metro fare the most expensive in the country.

Bengaluru’s metro fare has surpassed the fares of other major cities in the country. The city’s metro has made a mark across the country, with lakhs of people relying on it every day.

Metro services are available in many major cities across the country, including Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Kochi and Jaipur. However, Bengaluru’s metro fare is the highest among all these cities.

Metro fare in cities (minimum fare–maximum fare)

– Bengaluru: Rs 10 – Rs 90 (after 30 km)

– Delhi: Rs 10 – Rs 60 (after 32 km)

– Hyderabad: Rs 10 – Rs 60 (after 26 km)

– Mumbai: Rs 10 – Rs 80 (after 42 km)

– Kolkata: Rs 5 – Rs 50 (after 30 km)

In contrast, Kolkata’s metro fare is the lowest, with a minimum fare of Rs 5. Therefore,any argue that it is not right that metro fares have increased in Bengaluru from other cities in the country.

Experts and commuters feel that this fare hike is unfair and may drive people to opt for alternative modes of transport, such as two-wheelers.
