BENGALURU: The Muzrai Department has issued an order banning the sale of any type of tobacco products including gutka and cigarettes, within 100 meters around temples that come under its jurisdiction.
Since temples are spiritual places, the decision has been taken to create a conducive environment for religious activities. The state Congress unit tweeted praising the government’s decision.

“Dharma’ is only a way of giving spiritual insight to an individual. There should be cleanliness and peace in the temples, which gives spiritual feeling”, the state Congress unit noted.
The Karnataka Congress wrote on X stating, “Our government will take strict action against the sale of any tobacco products, including gutka, cigarettes, within 100 meters around the temples of Mujurai department”.
