Muslim youth’s house targeted after nursing student goes missing two weeks ago

BELAGAVI: A tense atmosphere prevailed at Santi Bastawad village in the taluk after unidentified men indulged in stone-pelting at the house of a Muslim youth, allegedly responsible for a nursing student going missing, on Friday night. Parts of an idgah also sustained damage and police are camping in the village to prevent any further escalation.

The minarts of an idgah outside the village were also damaged.

Radhika Muchchandi, a nursing student, went missing from her house 15 days ago and her parents have lodged a complaint with the Belagavi Rural police alleging that Sadruddin Bepari, a youth from the same village was responsible for her ‘kidnap’. Even 15 days after she went missing, the police haven’t been able to trace her, Radhika’s parents alleged.

“My daughter had gone to Savanthwadi to write an exam and on a Wednesday, the Muslim youth kidnapped her. Their families are also involved in the kidnap and all are missing since the incident. I want my daughter back”, said Deeepa, the girl’s mother. She also denied their involvement in the flare-up saying their were at the police station till 6 pm on Friday.

She also alleged that Sadruddin’s family would abuse in the name of caste whenever they went to fetch water and added that they have lodged a separate complaint with the police in this regard.
