Murder accused shot at near Rajanukunte, arrested

CHIKKABALLAPUR: The Doddaballapur Rural police arrested a murder accused after a shootout near Sriramanahalli close to Yelahanka on Friday. The injured accused and a police head constable have been admitted to a private hospital for treatment.

Acting on specific information, a police team went to arrest Srinivas, but he attacked them with stones and a knife. Police Inspector Sadiq Pasha fired a warning shot in the air, but when Srinivas did not stop attacking the police, the officer shot him in the leg. Srinivas and police head constable Chandrashekar have since been hospitalised.

The SP checked on the health condition of the injured head constable and the murder accused.

Srinivas is the second accused in the May 11 murder of Hemanth Gowda in front of a bar near Bashettyhalli on the outskirts of Doddaballapur. The main accused Narasimhamurthy has already been arrested.

Police Superintendent Mallikarjun Baladandi said, “The police arrested Narasimhamurthy two days ago. On Friday, the inspector and his team received information that Srinivas was near Rajanukunte and when the police went to arrest him, he attacked them with stones. He also tried to kill the head constable and injured him in the left hand. The police inspector first fired in the air and then shot him in the leg. Srinivas has cases of murder and attempted dacoity, among others, against him”.
