Mumbai-bound Star Air flight returns to Belagavi after fuel leak detected in engine, passengers safe

BELAGAVI: A Star Air flight (S5111) bound for Mumbai from here, returned and made a safe landing at the Sambra airport after a fuel leak was detected mid-air in an engine about 15 minutes after takeoff. The plane was carrying 48 passengers and all are safe.

The passengers were accommodated another Star Air flight which arrived from Bengaluru at 2.30 pm, according to the airport managing director Tyagaraj. The DGCA and the civil aviation authorities have sought a report from the airline regarding the malfunction.

“The flight had taken off at 7.30 am, but returned after 15 minutes due to a technical fault. The engineers are examining the aircraft and the passengers were accommodated on another flight. Some of them cancelled their tickets while some others proceeded with the journey”, Tyagaraj said.
