CHIKKAMAGALUR: An elderly couple from Devavrunda village in Mudigere taluk have written to President Droupadi Murmu seeking mercy killing after their coffee plantation, which had been seized under the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest (SARFAESI) Act, 2002, was  put up for auction.

The couple appealed that their plantation be handed back to them so that they could repay their loans or to approve mercy killing. In their petition, the couple said that due to the Covid pandemic and rampage by wild animals, they could not repay their loans.

In their petition, the couple said they are living in a rented house and have no other means of livelihood. They noted that they have not been able to arrange the marriage of their two daughter and sought justice.
