BENGALURU: Mandya MP Sumalata Ambarish met former chief minister and senior BJP leader S M Krishna at his residence Sadashivanagar on Saturday. Her surprise meeting with BJP leader S M Krishna sparked much debate in political circles with Assembly elections round the corner.
The BJP is trying hard to make inroads in Mandya region in the upcoming election and Independent MP Sumalata’s latest move has generated much curiosity.
After meeting S M Krishna, Sumalata told the media, “S M Krishna is a senior leader in the district and among the seniormost BJP leaders. He has received the second highest civilian award. I had never met him and I came here to congratulate him. No political issues were discussed”.
Regarding joining BJP, Sumalata said, Many people have come from Mandya today. I will discuss with everyone. I haven’t taken any decision yet and I need to meet some top party leaders. I don’t take decisions by calculating profit and loss. I have to take a decision considering my people and my supporters”.
She further added, “I am not interested in Lok Sabha. But I have to think about those who were with me. The situation should also be favourable to us before coming to a decision”. Sumalata, however, avoided questions about her future political step.
