MYSURU: A day after Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari conducted an inspection of the Bengaluru-Mysuru 10-lane expressway, Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha said the remainder of the work is expected to be completed by February and it will be inaugurated in mid- to end-March.
Addressing a press conference, he said he has requested the Union minister to name the expressway after river Cauvery as done in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The Cauvery river is the lifeline of the region and is considered holy. Various political leaders have suggested other names, but the KRS dam could be built because the river exists and is also responsible for Bengaluru’s growth, he noted.
Pratap Simha said the Mysuru airport has already been named after Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar and no highways across the country have been named after individuals. Stating that he has immense respect for senior leader S M Krishna, who first developed the road as a four-lane expressway, he said he will discuss the issue with Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai too.
Further, he said two- and three-wheelers will be barred on the expressway once the work on the service roads is completed to make it an accident-free zone.
