Moving car catches fire, driver safe

BENGALURU: A fire broke out in the engine compartment of a moving car on Vannarpet Main Road in Shantinagar on Thursday. Luckily, no one was injured.

Some autorickshaw drivers and passersby threw mud and water to douse the fire.

On noticing smoke, the owner of the Maruti Zen Estilo pulled over by the roadside and quickly moved some distance away. Thick flames started coming out of the bonnet and some autorickshaw drivers and passersby threw mud and sand and poured water from cans and doused the fire.

The car owner said he had got the vehicle serviced 10 days ago.

The car owner Narasimha Iyengar told Public TV, “I was heading to office when I heard a loud sound and some other motorists raised an alarm. I immediately pulled over, stopped the car and got out. I had got the car serviced just 10 days ago and I don’t know what happened. But luckily, no one was harmed”.
