Kannada actor Vijay Raghavendra’s wife and producer, Spandana, passed away after a heart attack in Bangkok on Monday morning. As he died abroad, the process of bringing back the body was delayed due to legal issues.
The post-mortem process usually takes longer in South Asian countries, like in India, as it is conducted in government hospitals.
On receiving the postmortem report, the police verify whether it was a natural or unnatural death, and only after that will the body be handed over to the family. Then the family has to obtain a death certificate. The post-mortem report, death certificate, and police reports should be sent to the respective embassy.
The family of Spandana has to get all these reports and submit them to the Indian embassy in Bangkok. Customs clearance for shifting of the body is obtained jointly with the embassy and the local administration and at this time, Spandana’s passport and visa will be taken back. Only after all these processes are completed, the body is allowed to be taken to the airport.
After the body is brought to the airport, there will be further procedures. All reports received from the embassy are to be submitted to the Bengaluru airport authorities and only after that, permission is given to take the body.
