BENGALURU: The state government is planning to introduce moral science as a separate subject in schools from the current academic year itself. Primary Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa announced this initiative during the Teachers’ Day celebration, stating that moral education will be taught through a dedicated textbook in schools by October.

The Education department has already prepared the moral education textbook for students from Classes 3 to 10. The proposal is likely to be presented in the next cabinet meeting for approval, and, if cleared, the moral education textbook will be implemented soon.

The education department aims to impart moral values to students alongside curriculum activities. By introducing moral education as a separate subject, the department hopes to shape the character and values of students, contributing to their integrated development.

The moral education syllabus will be designed to teach human values alongside regular education. The department has formed a committee to develop the moral education curriculum, which will focus on imparting essential life skills and values to students.

The syllabus will include lessons on family, mutual understanding, right and wrong, and social welfare. It will feature moral lessons, short stories and anecdotes that teach students important values. Additionally, the textbook will cover important topics such as sexual education and awareness, helping students navigate complex issues.

The moral education textbook will prioritise value-based education, aiming to build character and instill values such as empathy, kindness, and responsibility in students. The education department hopes to produce good citizens who are equipped to make a positive impact in society.
