Moral policing: Hindu youth thrashed for taking Muslim girl on motorcycle

DAVANAGERE: A Hindu youth was thrashed by a group of Muslim men at a marriage hall overnight and dumped at an isolated place in an unconscious state last Friday evening in an alleged case of moral policing. To top it all, the attackers filed a case against the youth under the POCSO Act at the women’s police station.

The Muslim girl and the Hindu youth were waylaid when they were travelling on the latter’s motorcycle.

In a mobile phone video that is available, a group of Muslim men can be seen assaulting Srinivas, a resident of Jali Nagar, for giving a ride to a Muslim girl known to him near the RTO Circle close to the SP’s office. Despite pleas by the girl that she herself had asked for a lift to get some photocopies done, the men would have nothing of it.

After waylaying the youth and assaulting him, the group of men took him to a marriage hall and attacked him all through the night. When he fell unconscious, they dumped him at a desolate place.

At 2.30 am on Saturday, they went to the women’s police station and lodged a complaint against Srinivas under the POCSO Act. Meanwhile, the seriously injured youth is undergoing treatment at the district government hospital.
