CHIKKABALLAPUR: A tipper from a stone crushing unit ran over a moped rider, killing him on the spot, at Chadalapura Gate in the taluk on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Kuppalli Krishnappa.
Following the accident, enraged locals staged a protest, blocking National Highway-44, leading to vehicles piling up for about 2 km. The Nandi Giridhama and Chikkaballapur police had a tough time convincing the local residents to withdraw their protest and finally allowed for traffic flow.
Locals pointed out that accidents are occurring repeatedly due to work being taken up on a bridge on the NH-44. The Nandi Giridhama police have seized the tipper (KA 43 A 3019) and arrested the driver.
