Cash stuffed in a carton was found hidden in a tree in the garden of a businessman's house in Mysuru.

BENGALURU: Income Tax officials conducted raids on five prominent businessmen and financiers in different cities for allegedly financing candidates contesting the upcoming Assembly election.

The I-T officials raided the houses and business of businessmen and financiers in Mysuru, Mangaluru, Bengaluru, Mandya and Hubballi on Tuesday and the search continued on Wednesday. They were allegedly financing candidates of all the major parties in Karnataka.

Cash of Rs 1 crore was found in the carton.

In Mysuru, the I-T officials seized Rs 1 crore that was stuffed in a carton that was hidden in a tree in the garden of businessman K Subramanya Rai’s house. He is the brother of Puttur Congress candidate Ashok Kumar Rai.

The popular eatery was also searched.

They also raided the popular eatery Bombay Tiffanys Annexe on D Devaraj Urs Road, run by one Anil, the branches at Siddartha Nagar and JP Nagar, and also his residences in Yadavagiri and near the RTO office.
