BELAGAVI: A controversy erupted when MLC Channaraj Hattiholi allegedly clashed with police at the Sambra airport to welcome Deputy CM D K Shivakumar when he arrived to participate in the winter session of the legislature on Tuesday morning.
When police tried to restrict access to only those with passes, Hattiholi reportedly shouted at the police, demanding that they allow all his supporters into the airport. Hattiholi got angry and said, “Let everyone in.” When police refused, he shouted, “Call the Commissioner!” and arrogantly took his associates inside.
Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar later arrived at the Belagavi Circuit House, accompanied by MLC Channaraj Hattiholi who is the brothr of Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar.
The incident has sparked debate, with many questioning the privileged treatment given to elected representatives with many questioning if there are two sets of laws, one for the people and one for the representatives.
