BENGALURU: The body of a delivery agent who fell into the Vrushabhavathi canal after his two-wheeler it the retaining wall near Jnanabharati Metro station has was finally fished out on Sunday.
The deceased youth has been identified as Hemant (22) of Batarayanpura. The incident took place when he was returning home from work on Friday night around 10.30 pm. His two-wheeler collided had brushed against the retaining wall and he was suspected to have fallen into the rajakaluve.
The two-wheeler was on the road while one footwear and the brush mark on the retaining wall were found. A search operation was launched by the police and fire department and his body was found after a 20 hour-long search.
Locals have alleged that the accident occurred due to a pothole on the road near the canal. The incident has raised concerns about the need to increase the height of the retaining walls on flyovers, which was discussed in a meeting.
The search for Hemant was conducted from Jnanabharati University Gate on Mysore Road all the way up to Kengeri. Police and fire brigade personnel searched for his body for more than 20 hours. Following the accident, the BBMP is mulling increasing the height of the retaining wall on the flyovers.
