TUMAKURU, UDUPI: A 19-year-old college student and a married man are reported missing and it is suspected that they may have committed suicide by jumping into the Mavathur lake in Koratagere taluk. Their footwear were found by the edge of the water, giving rise to suspicion.
It is suspected that the two came by car to the lake, parked the vehicle and left behind their mobiles and jumped into the water. The missing persons are Ananya (19), daughter of Lakkayyappa of Kolala hobli and Rangashamanna (45) of Bairagondlu village.
They have been missing for the last three days and it is suspected that they may have ended their lives due to opposition to their relationship from their families. Fire and Emergency Services personnel, along with expert divers, had launched a search operation in the lake.
Meanwhile, a youth from Tiptur, who had been to Kundapura, has been reported missing at sea. Yogish (22) had been to Kundapura to attend some ceremonies at a friend’s house.
It is suspected that Yogish entered the sea at Beejadi and may have been washed away by the strong wind and waves. Expert diver Dinesh Kharvi of Gangolli and other locals conducted a search in the sea, but could not locate Yogish. They suspect that he may have been washed away towards Byndoor or Bhatkal. The Kundapur police have registered a missing person’s case.
