Minto Hospital preps up to treat eye injuries ahead of Deepavali festival

BENGALURU: With the Deepavali festival approaching, doctors at Minto Ophthalmic Hospital have urged people to take precautionary measures while bursting crackers to protect their eyes. The hospital has also reserved beds to treat cracker-related injuries in men, women and children.

What are the precautionary measures to be followed in houses to avoid cracker-related injuries?

  • Children should be supervised by adults while bursting firecrackers.
  • Parents should light firecrackers themselves.
  • Keep children away from dangerous fireworks like rockets.
  • Go outside only if necessary.
  • Be careful while bursting firecrackers and walking on the road
  • Be careful while walking in open spaces.

An average of 70 individuals have received treatment for firecracker eye injuries every year at Minto Hospital over the past 10 years. In the last two years, Deepavali disasters were less due to Covid-19 restrictions. Minto Eye Hospital has reserved a 14-bed ward for women and children and another 14-bed ward for men to treat firecracker-related injuries.
