HAVERI: A minor girl attempted to kill her fiance by slitting his throat with a knife after taking him to a park on the outskirts of Ranebennur on the pretext of making social media reels. While the man is undergoing treatment at a hospital, the girl has since been arrested.
The girl, hailing from a village in Haveri taluk, had recently got engaged to Devendragouda Mandagatti (30) from Mydoora village in Harapanahalli taluk. On April 6, Devendragouda visited her house in Ranebennur on the occasion of her birthday and had planned to buy her some new clothes and gifts. The two then set out from her house stating that they would be visiting a temple.
The girl convinced Devendragouda to visit the Swarna Park on the outskirts of the town on the pretext of shooting videos for social media reels and slit Devendragouda’s neck with a knife. As he lay in a pool of blood, the girl fled from the scene.
Some passersby came to Devendragouda’s rescue and immediately called the police and an ambulance. The paramedical staff in the ambulance administered first aid and shifted the man to the Davanagere district hospital for treatment, where he is said to be recovering.
Within hours of the incident, the police managed to nab the minor girl. It is said that the girl, who had just written her PU I exams, was in love with another youth. However, the exact motive behind her trying to kill her fiance is being investigated.
