BENGALURU: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has launched a statewide crackdown on milk adulteration, collecting samples from various dairy units, including private dairies and the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF).
Preliminary tests have revealed the presence of caustic soda and urea in some milk samples. Caustic soda is used to prevent milk from curdling while urea is added to increase the milk’s consistency.
The department has taken cognizance of complaints about the use of adulteration agents in milk and is conducting thorough tests to ensure public safety.
The consumption of adulterated milk can lead to serious health issues, and the department is working to identify and penalise those responsible for the adulteration.
