YADGIR: Milk powder and wheat, meant for distribution to schools and student hostels were found stocked at a godown belonging to a cotton mill at Gurmitkal during a raid by Food and Civil Supplies officials. The officials also seized approximately 300 kg of milk powder and 20 bags of wheat.
The food department’s raid revealed a huge scandal. When the officials raided the Sri Lakshmi Thimmappa Cotton Mill earlier, they hda found a large quantity of PDS rice, jowar, milk powder and wheat meant for schools under the ‘Ksheera Bhagya’ scheme.
The investigation revealed that the milk powder and wheat were sold to black marketers. There are doubts about the involvement of school teachers in the scandal. The food department and education department officials are shocked and are investigating how the ration material was diverted. The officials are yet to identify the owners of the godown.
