GADAG: Milk powder, meant to be distributed among anganwadi children, pregnant women and nursing mothers, which was to be illegally transported to Hyderabad from Gadag, was seized by the police on Saturday after an exposé by Public TV. The police are now on the lookout for those involved in the illegal trade.
The milk powder is supplied to anganwadis and government school to be distributed under the Ksheera Bhagya scheme. However, some blackmarketeers were preparing to transport the milk powder in 15 bags of 50 kg each and made to look like gram flour, to Hyderabad through private buses.
The milk powder was collected from Kukanoor, Yelburga and Koppal in Koppal district and Gadag, Betageri, Ron and Shirahatti, Mundargi and Nargund in Gadag district to be sent to Hyderabad. After Public TV aired a report on the illegal trade, SP B S Nemagouda dispatched a police team which seized the milk powder.
It is said that one Ranganath Kenchagundi of Narasapura in Gadag-Betageri was supplying the milk powder to Hyderabad. The police are now investigating to uncover the entire network.
