BENGALURU: With a section of transporters on contract with the Bangalore Milk Union (Bamul) going on strike since Saturday seeking fulfilment of their demands, consumers of the Nandini brand of milk and curds could not get supplies of milk and curds on Sunday in some parts of the city.
The supply of Nandini Milk has been affected since Saturday afternoon in some areas as about 250 truck owners and drivers have stopped supplying milk and other products to the KMF outlets. Every morning, about 25 crates of milk were supplied to each outlet, but now only 20 crates of milk were supplied on Sunday morning. The Nandini milk was not supplied even in the afternoon. The customers were left with no option but to buy milk and curd in the morning and store them for later use.
The lorry owners and drivers demanded that they be paid more on the basis of kilometres covered than each trip, and have written letters to the KMF regarding the same. For one trip, Bamul is paying Rs 1,000-1,300. The transporters say fuel prices have already increased and it is difficult for them to continue on the old rates. EAch truck covers up to 40 km on each trip, carrying 450 crates. Each crate has 12 litres of Nandini milk.
