Medical experts warn dengue may peak in September-October

BENGALURU: Amid the heavy rainfall, the state is witnessing a rapid rise in dengue cases. Medical experts have warned that the number of dengue cases is likely to increase till December and it is expected to peak in September-October.

Currently, more than 11,000 cases have been reported in the state, with 400-500 cases being reported daily. Eight people have died due to dengue so far. Experts have expressed concern over the increasing number of cases. The number of cases is expected to increase in the next four months, until December.

Rainfall is expected in many districts, and the number of cases is likely to increase in those districts where rainfall is more. Chikkamagalur, Dakshina Kannada, Hassan and Uttara Kannada are among the districts where the number of cases have crossed 1,000. In these districts, 5–10 cases were reported last week, but now 20–25 cases are being reported daily, causing concern.

The total number of dengue cases in the state is 11,451, with 8 deaths; 4,305 cases reported in Bangaluru, 624 cases in Chikkamagalur, 447 cases in Hassan, 357 cases in Dakshina Kannada, 508 cases in Haveri, 440 cases in Dharwad, 250 cases in Udupi  and  578 cases in Mysuru.
