BENGALURU: Minister for Medical Education and Skill Development, Dr Sharan Prakash Patil, paid tribute to medical educators, emphasizing their critical role in shaping the future of healthcare.
Speaking at Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) during the Teachers’ Day celebrations on Saturday, the minister highlighted the deep commitment required from educators in the medical field. “Medical education demands not only the transmission of complex knowledge but also the mentorship of students in clinical skills, ethical practices, and compassionate patient care”, Patil said while addressing the gathering.
Patil praised RGUHS for its contributions to producing world-class medical professionals and commended its exceptional faculty. “At Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, our mission is to cultivate knowledge, compassion, and excellence in healthcare education. This mission is upheld daily by our dedicated teachers who inspire generations of students to strive for greatness. We owe them our deepest gratitude for their tireless efforts and unwavering commitment”, he added.

Highlighting the importance of recognizing faculty achievements, Patil noted that celebrating teachers’ successes encourages others to pursue similar excellence. “When educators are acknowledged for their contributions, it fosters a competitive yet collaborative spirit, enhancing the quality of education, research, and patient care,” he remarked.
During the event, the minister conferred the prestigious Professor Emeritus Awards to Dr K V Ashok Kumar, medical faculty; Dr A R Raghupathy, medical faculty; Dr Sadashiva Shetty, dental faculty; Dr Ashalata, Ayurveda faculty, and Dr S K Tiwari, Homeopathy faculty.
He also felicitated other eminent teachers in the field of health sciences that included Dr V Rajagopal, medical faculty; Dr Durganna T, medical faculty; Dr Dinesh Ramu, dental faculty; Dr Shobha Rani R Hiremath, pharmacy faculty; Dr Umesh V Purad, ayurveda faculty; Dr Sucheta Kanta, homeopathy faculty; Dr K Reddemma, nursing faculty and Dr N S Prakash, allied health sciences.
The ceremony was attended by RGUHS Vice Chancellor Dr MK Ramesh, Registrars Shivaprasad P R, Dr Riyaz Basha, and several other dignitaries.
