Medical Education minister seeks report after heart attack deaths rise to 15 in Hassan

BENGALURU: A concerning trend has been identified in Hassan where young men are falling victim to heart attacks or sudden death syndrome. In one month’s time, the number of youths who have died of heart attacks in Hassan has increased to 15, especially people between the ages of 20 and 40.

The Medical Education Department has decided to investigate the matter and Minister Sharan Prakash Patil has instructed officials to submit a report. The minister has clarified that Covid-19 vaccines are not the cause of these heart attacks.

The issue has sent shockwaves not only in Hassan but across the state, prompting the Medical Education Department to take the matter seriously. The minister has directed Jayadeva Hospital to submit a report and conduct an investigation.

Sharanagouda Patil said, “We are now seeing sudden death syndrome among young people. The major reason is lifestyle. I would urge them to take proper food and exercise activities. This is important for every individual. Their erratic lifestyle and stress also may be a reason”.

A 37-year-old auto driver named Govinda died of a heart attack in Siddheshwara Nagar in Hassan when he was driving his auto and suddenly experienced chest pain. He drove himself to the district hospital where he was declared dead due to a heart attack. This is one of the 17 heart attack-related deaths reported in Hassan district within a month.

May 28: Kavana (20), Hassan taluk, Kelavatti village

June 11: Nishant (20),

June 12: Transport Department staff Nagappa (55) in a bus

                     Former TMC member Neelakanthappa (58)

June 13: Devaraju (43) in a car

                   Sathish (57), Rajaghatta, near Hassan city

June 14: Kantaraju (51) from Doddapur in Hassan taluk

June 18: Naveen (31), a forest ranger from Tumkur, had been working in Sakleshpur taluk until two months ago.

                 Tirthappa (78), originally from Singatagere in Arasikere taluk. He was from Kesagodu village in Belur taluk.

June 20: Nishad Ahmed (35) a resident of Belur.

June 21: Chethan (38) a resident of Satyamangala in Hassan city.

June 25: Yogesh MK (32) died in Bengaluru, from M Honnehalli village in Channarayapatna taluk.

                 Manjunath (51), died in Hassan. He was from Bavikoppalu village in Alur taluk.

June 26: Supreeta (22), died in Byatarayanapura in Bengaluru. He was from Kattali village in Holenarasipur taluk.

June 28: Govinda (37), from Siddeshwar Nagar in Hassan.
