RAICHUR: The district authorities on Tuesday evicted the Mruthyunjaya Math and cow shelter at Yeganoor village in the taluk, as it was allegedly built on government land. The math and cow shelter was built on a four-acre piece of land.

The authorities took up the eviction drive at a time when the math head Jnananda Swami is way at Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh Mela. The eviction driver was carried out despite opposition from the villagers.

The eviction driver was carried out under the supervision of Raichur SP Gajanana Bale on the orders of the Deputy Commissioner Nitish K. The land was cleared as it was allotted for the Rajiv Gandhi housing scheme.

A Shiva temple on the land was also razed and about 60 heads of cattle at the cow shelter were shifted elsewhere. The math and cow shelter had been functioning on the land for the last 10 years.
