A total of 28 Ganesha idols were taken in procession through the main streets of Maddur and were immersed in the Shimsha river near the Anjaneya temple. As the idols entered Maddur from the villages, ‘Jai Sri Ram’ slogans were raised with people swirling saffron flags.
Addressing the gathering at the Rama Mandir park, former BJP national secretary C T Ravi said Hindu sentiments were hurt by the stone-pelting incidents. Referring to Bhadravathi MLA B K Sangamesh’s remarks that he wants to be born a Muslim in his next life, Ravi said, “He can convert in this life itself by getting a circumcision done. It Congress has the courage, it should run a JCB on those who pelted stones. Otherwise, a Yogi will come to power here too”.
Opposition leader in the Assembly, R Ashoka said, “DK Shivakumar had called the people of Mandya as cunning and now he has shown his cunning. This country belongs to Hindus, and if anyone raised pro-Pakistan slogans, we will send them there. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah wore a mullah’s cap and is fooling Hindus. They tried to defame Dharmasthala and are now showing disrespect to Chamundi Hills”.
Former Deputy CM Ashwath Narayan, former MLA D C Thamanna, former Mandya MP Sumalatha Ambareesh, former MLA Suresh Gowda also spoke at the event. Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar and other were also present. From the Rama Mandira park, the procession headed towards the Shimsha river where the Ganesha idols were immersed.
