A student of MIT took a professor to task over the latter's 'Muslim terrorists' remark.

UDUPI: A professor who referred to ‘Muslim terrorists’ was schooled by a Muslim student at the Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT). The incident occurred on November 26 and a video of the exchange between the professor and the student has since gone viral.

In a video, the student can be seen arguing with his professor.

The professor, who apologised to the student, has since been suspended and an internal inquiry has been instituted. The institute authorities have also spoken to the student in question and counselled him.

In the video, the student can be seen questioning the professor how he can speak “in such derogatory manner”, to which the professor says, “You are just like my kid… it’s was just a funny thing”. To this, the student replies, “No sir, it’s not funny. Being a Muslim in this country, I’m facing this every day and it’s not funny”.

The professor apologised to the student, but he would have none of it.

When the professor tries to calm him down saying, “You’re just like my son”, the students retorts, questioning him, “Will you talk to your son like that? Will you call him by the name of a terrorist? How can you call me like that in front of so many people, in the class?” The professor then says sorry again, but the boy continues saying, “You are a professional, you are teaching. Sir, sorry doesn’t change how you think, how you portray yourself here”.
