MANGALURU: A police officer came to the rescue of a youth injured in an accident by arranging for him to be shifted to a hospital in her official vehicle on Friday. Earlier, it was believed that the vehicle was used to drop off some of those who had protested against the Waqf (Amendment) Act in the city.
After a video of Assistant Commissioner of Police Najma Farooqis’ vehicle, with emergency lights on and siren blaring went viral, in which some youths were seen, the Mangaluru police commissioner clarified in a statement that an accident victim was shifted to hospital in the SUV.
Earlier, it was said that some of the protesters were dropped off in the vehicle. Despite the high court ordering that National Highway-73 should not be blocked, the protesters had halted traffic, following which the traffic police cleared the traffic.
The Mangaluru police commissioner clarified that a youth, Mohammed Akhtar (16), has suffered injuries after a rashly driver Tempo Traveller passenger van ran over his foot near Sha Garden in Adyar. A large crowd had gathered there and two women police personnel who were deployed at the spot, flagged down the ACP’s vehicle and arranged for the injured to the shifted to hospital.
