Mandya police file chargesheet in rape, murder of 10-year-old girl in 14 days

MANDYA: Many horrific details have been revealed in the police charge-sheet in the case of the rape and murder of a 10-year-old girl in Malavalli. The Mandya district police have submitted a 638-page chargesheet in just 14 days to the court.

As per the chargesheet, the rape pre-planned by the accused Kantharaju. He lured the victim with chocolate every day and on the fateful day, he took the girl to a deserted area where he raped and murdered her.

A day before the incident, the girl called to ask whether there was tuition as it was a school holiday. But the Kantharaju told her that there will be tuition class at 11 am. The next day too, he called the girl to come for tuitions. Trusting Kantharaju, the girl left home for tuition, but the tuition centre was locked. Then girl went to the place where Kantharaju was staying.

He then gave her a chocolate and took her to a under construction building next to the tuition centre, where he raped her. As the girl screamed, he stuffed her undergarment into her mouth. After that, he thrashed her with a stone, strangled her with a wire, and threw the body of the girl into a water sump.

Kantharaju then threw her clothes outside the house and pretended as if he did not know anything. He also joined with the victim’s parents in the search for the girl. The truth came to light when police went through the phone call records. The police have collected scientific evidence on the case.

In his earlier days, Kantharaju’s education qualification was reported as having studied till PUC, but surprisingly, he later claimed to have completed a post-graduate course in anthropology. After that, he even took up a PhD. He left his wife about 6 years ago and was living away from his daughters, but had been in touch with them.

Kantharaju started his career in the admin department at Infosys. When he was terminated from the job due to the Covid crisis, Infosys Foundation chairperson Sudha Murty gave him a job as a gardener at her house. He, however, quit after two months and joined Jnana Kutira Tuition Centre as supervisor.

Additional Director General of Police (law and order) Alok Kumar tweeted about the police filing a chargesheet in just 14 days and how the police are making efforts to give justice to the victim. “The case of the rape and murder of a 10-year-old child at Malavalli in Mandya District has been charge-sheeted within 14 days of the incident. Kudos to Mandya District Police. Making efforts to ensure speedy justice. Grateful to Hon’ble CM @BSBommai, Hon’ble HM & @DgpKarnataka  for support”, he wrote on Twitter.

Alok Kumar, twitted that Malavalli of Mandya District has been charge sheeted within 14 days of the incident.
