DAVANGERE: A man who stabbed a woman in broad daylight here on Thursday, died after consuming poison near P J Layout the same night.
Chand Pir (29) had attacked Chand Sultana (28) when she was heading for work on Thursday. It is said that he was upset over her engagement with another man. Sultana slumped on her scooter and bled to death.
Later, Sayyed Sadat alias Chand Pir consumed poison in a bid to end his life. Police reached his house on receiving information and rushed him to City Central hospital. But he died later without responding to treatment.
Sayyed Sadat killed Chand Sultana by slitting her throat near Lourdes Church while she was riding her two-wheeler towards workplace. Recently, she had got engaged to another man, but Sadat could not digest this. Police have suspect that this may be a reason behind her murder, Davanagere SP Ryshyanth said.
Sulatana was a resident of Vinoba Nagar. A few months ago, Sultana got engaged to Ayub, and they were to get married in a few months. A case was registered at the Vidyanagar police station.
