Man tries to save macaw perched on high-tension power line, dies due to electrocution

BENGALURU: A 23‑year‑old man, who had gone to rescue a macaw worth Rs 2 lakh, which was perched on a high‑tension wire near an apartment complex in Girinagar, died after he was electrocuted. The deceased was identified as Arun Kumar.

Arun tried to chase the macaw away with a steel pipe tied to a rod and leaning on the pole. In the process, he came in contact with a 66‑kV power line and sustained an electric shock, falling to the ground. Bystanders rushed him to a hospital, but he died en route.

Bescom and police officials visited the scene. The macaw is said to be a foreign species valued at around Rs 2 lakh. The Girinagar police have launched an investigation into the incident.
