Explaining the incident, Venugopal said, “I spotted the leopard and followed it. It climbed a coconut tree and suddenly jumped on me and I sustained injuries on my hands and legs. The leopard also tore my shoe. I caught it by the neck and called out to another person to bring a rope. Then I managed to tie the legs of the leopard, put it on my bike and too it to the hospital. But the forest officer advised me to leave the animal where I found it. So I brought it back and left it in the shade”.
