BELAGAVI: A drunk man was thrashed, tied to a pole and later handed over to the police after he threw stones at the Ashwathama temple at Pangula Galli here Wednesday night. The accused was identified as Yasir, a resident of Ujwal Nagar here.

Police Commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang, who visited the locality on Thursday morning. The accused was arrested by the Market police and a KSRP platoon was stationed in the locality to prevent any trouble.

Yasir was caught by locals after the threw stones at the temple and was fleeing. Upon questioning by the locals, he reportedly said some people danced during Holi celebrations wearing burqa and hence, he committed the act.

In another incident, a mute man was brutally thrashed by miscreants after he plucked some leaves and threw them in the neighbour’s compound at Padalawadi village in Khanapur taluk. The victim was identified as Digambar Desai (40).

Digambar was badly thrashed and allegedly threatened of life. He has been admitted to a local hospital where he is recuperating. A complaint has been lodged at the Nandagarh police station naming five people as accused.
